Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz placed XRP utility at the center of a June 17 post on X ahead of Ripple Swell 2026, pointing to new ways people are using the asset across finance and blockchain applications. The post focused on builders, community participation, and practical use cases rather than event logistics.
XRP’s role in payments, tokenization, interoperability, decentralized finance, and artificial intelligence formed the core of Schwartz’s remarks. Ripple has described Swell 2026 as its largest Swell event yet, with more than 1,500 attendees, over 75 speakers, more than 50 sessions, and three stages in New York City.
Schwartz wrote:
“I hear this will be the largest Ripple Swell yet. I wouldn’t miss it.”
The speaker list so far includes Matt Damon, co-founder of Water.org; Tom Farley, chairman and CEO of Bullish; Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple; Billy Hult, CEO of Tradeweb; Monica Long, president of Ripple; and Schwartz. The lineup places Ripple executives alongside finance, exchange, and philanthropic leaders.
Recent XRP commentary has increasingly focused on adoption beyond short-term price action. Alexis Sirkia, chairman of Yellow Network, recently pointed to XRP activity across payments, tokenization, liquidity provision, and settlement, while noting continued building by institutions, developers, and businesses.
Ripple’s own positioning has reinforced that utility theme. CEO Brad Garlinghouse has cited XRP’s three-to-five-second settlement, fractions-of-a-penny transaction costs, scalability, and more than 4 billion completed transactions as factors behind its payments-focused positioning.
Enterprise Treasury and Liquidity Themes Add Context to XRP Message
Enterprise finance has become another important XRP use case. Ripple said its treasury platform now lets organizations hold, manage, and transact with XRP and RLUSD inside existing workflows, with real-time valuation, transaction recording, and auditability for treasury teams.
Liquidity strategy also gives Schwartz’s Swell comments wider context. Garlinghouse has tied XRP to payments, custody, liquidity, and treasury management, while also describing AI as part of Ripple’s work in cash forecasting and real-time liquidity management for chief financial officers.

He said his company has bought, held, and paid employees with XRP since 2023, while using the asset across XRPL, Solana, Flare, and other networks.
