Key Takeaways

Binance launched USDT-settled options tied to gold and silver prices.Retail users can buy calls and puts but cannot sell options to open positions. The rollout expands Binance’s push into regulated traditional market products.

Binance Moves From Perpetuals to Options

Crypto exchange Binance launched gold and silver options on July 29, extending its commodity business beyond futures-style products. The announcement says the European-style contracts are cash-settled in USDT and listed as XAUUSDT and XAGUSDT, with one-day and one-week expirations. Trading follows the underlying metals’ market hours rather than running continuously.

For retail users, the structure places a firm ceiling on the cost of a losing trade. Buyers can purchase calls to position for higher prices or puts to position for declines, but they cannot sell options to open a position. The maximum loss is the premium paid, and long positions carry no liquidation risk, though contracts can still expire worthless.

The options build on a commodity push that began in January, when Binance introduced gold and silver perpetuals settled in USDT. Those contracts gave traders continuous, leveraged exposure without expiration dates. The new products add fixed expirations and defined-risk strategies, giving users a different way to trade price moves or hedge existing exposure.

Binance is promoting the launch with zero maker fees and a 0.02% taker fee until further notice. About 10 strikes are expected for each daily expiration and roughly 12 for weekly contracts, giving traders a range of entry points around the prevailing gold or silver price.

Crypto Exchanges Chase Commodity Volume

The timing reflects a larger migration of commodity trading onto crypto infrastructure. Commodity perpetuals reached $25 billion weekly across gold, silver and oil markets, according to Bitmex Research figures. That volume shows crypto-native traders are using stablecoin-settled contracts for exposure once concentrated on traditional futures exchanges and specialist brokerage platforms.

Competition is also spreading beyond metals into stock indexes, equities and other real-world assets. An analysis of how crypto RWA perpetuals challenge traditional markets found that digital-asset venues were capturing a growing share of derivatives activity by combining stablecoin settlement, smaller account barriers, and familiar crypto trading interfaces. Binance’s options launch extends that contest into a product long associated with sophisticated hedging and volatility trading.

Crypto platforms have often marketed uninterrupted access as their advantage over conventional exchanges, particularly when major news breaks during market closures. Research on weekend demand for commodity perpetuals found that off-hours trading can reflect genuine demand rather than thin speculative noise. Binance’s new options differ, however: orders stop matching during daily breaks, weekends and certain holidays.

Regulated Structure, Familiar Trading Risks

The contracts operate through Binance entities within Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) that are regulated by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA), ADGM’s independent financial regulator. The framework separates exchange, clearing, custody, and broker-dealer functions across entities authorized to provide on-exchange trading, clearing, custody, and off-exchange services.

Binance said the options trade on FSRA-regulated Nest Exchange Limited and clear through Nest Clearing and Custody Limited. The FSRA register entry for Nest Trading confirms that the related broker-dealer entity has been active since Jan. 5, 2026. It also records limitations, including a prohibition on holding or controlling client money.

That structure gives eligible users a regulated route into commodity-linked derivatives, but it does not remove the risks associated with short-dated options. One-day contracts can lose value quickly, and buyers may forfeit their full premium when a trade finishes outside the strike. Availability also varies by jurisdiction, leaving some Binance customers unable to access the products.
