Key Takeaways

A Brazilian farm secured a $20K loan using tokenized cows as collateral, boosting value by reducing risk.Crypto comprises just 0.7% of El Salvador’s 2026 remittances as citizens stick to traditional channels. An Argentine bill proposes letting funds buy crypto and tokenize securities, unlocking billions in demand.

From Pasture to Blockchain: How Tokenized Cows Are Revolutionizing Agricultural Finance in Brazil

The Engendro Velho farm, located in Paraná, Brazil, received a loan of nearly $20K using a herd of 10 cows as collateral, using decentralized technology to digitize the information of each cow.

The farmer received the Financial Rural Product Note (CPR-F) valued at nearly $100K from BMP, a direct credit society, and the deliverables (each cow) were assigned to Target FIDC, a fintech company that registered the transaction using each animal’s data.

While this kind of transaction is not new, the tokenization and monitoring of the cows enables farmers to get a better deal, as creditors can examine the status of the herd at any time, lowering the risks associated with such a loan.

Humberto Brenner, a director at Target FIDC, stressed that this element can lead to a cow reaching up to 2.5 times the price it would have in similar non-monitored agreements. “Monitoring eliminates that uncertainty,” he declared.

5 Years After the Bitcoin Law, Crypto Accounts for Just 0.7% of El Salvador’s $5B Remittance Market

Numbers issued by the Central Bank of El Salvador revealed that during the first half of 2026, only $35.4 million of the total volume of external remittances was sent to the country using digital currency channels. The figure represents less than 1% of all funds sent to the country in 2026, which reached over $5 billion.

In comparison, cash remittances, which are handed over personally when senders travel from another country to El Salvador to visit their relatives, rose to 3.8%. Even so, crypto remittance numbers are significantly higher than those reached during H1 2025, when these registered $25.4 million in volumes, a rise of 39.1%.

Total remittances for the period also rose from $4.84 billion to 5.06 billion, a rise of 219.2 million (4.5%). Remittance companies and banks constitute the preferred channels for Salvadorans to send money home, intermediating over 84% of the volume received from abroad.

Argentina Proposes Sweeping Deregulation Bill to Modernize Capital Markets With Crypto and Blockchain

An early draft of the Deregulation Bill, prepared by Deregulation Minister Federico Sturzenegger, proposes significant changes to include digital assets and decentralized technologies in national financial markets, aiming to open new possibilities to investors interested in these assets.

First and foremost, the project proposes allowing investment funds to invest in digital assets when in agreement with the fund’s investment policy. This would open a demand for billions in digital assets, according to early estimates.

“Today, crypto-assets are investment assets; it is a good thing to allow funds to invest in them—subject, of course, to regulations that the CNV must approve. It is not a case of just anyone going out to buy Bitcoin, nor is it just any crypto-asset,” an undisclosed source told Clarin.

Also, the document approves the tokenization of all negotiable securities, including issuance, custody, transference, and sale of these assets using decentralized technologies.
