Key Takeaways

Strategy sold 1,638 BTC and still holds 842,138 BTC as of Aug. 2, 2026.Michael Saylor raised Strategy’s USD reserve to $4B and repurchased $81M of STRC.Investors will watch Strategy’s next treasury update after its third 2026 BTC sale.

Strategy Adjusts Treasury Without Abandoning Bitcoin

Executive Chairman Michael Saylor announced Monday that Strategy increased its USD reserve by $250 million and repurchased $81 million of its STRC preferred shares. The company said the move extended the duration of its dollar reserve by 57 days to roughly 2.3 years while improving STRC’s bitcoin credit metrics by 5 basis points. As of Aug. 2, Strategy held 842,138 BTC alongside a $4 billion USD reserve.

The update follows Strategy’s latest treasury adjustments disclosed in a Form 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Rather than purchasing more bitcoin, the company focused on strengthening liquidity, supporting preferred stock obligations and repurchasing securities as part of its broader capital management strategy.

Third Bitcoin Sale Funds Treasury Priorities

The latest filing shows Strategy sold 1,638 BTC between Jul. 27 and Aug. 2 for approximately $104.7 million, receiving an average sale price of $63,957 per bitcoin. According to the company, about $52.4 million of those proceeds funded dividends on its preferred stock, while another $52.3 million supported repurchases of STRC shares.

This marks Strategy’s third bitcoin sale of 2026, reflecting a notable shift from the company’s long-standing practice of almost exclusively accumulating bitcoin. Even so, the sale represents only a small fraction of its total holdings, leaving its bitcoin reserve at 842,138 BTC with an aggregate purchase price of roughly $63.5 billion and an average acquisition cost of $75,419 per bitcoin.

Cash Reserve Grows Alongside Share Repurchases

In addition to the bitcoin sale, Strategy generated about $290.6 million through sales of 3,011,361 shares of its Class A common stock. The company directed $250 million of those proceeds into its USD reserve, nearly $29 million toward additional STRC repurchases and the remaining funds to its cash balance.

Strategy also disclosed that it repurchased 912,143 STRC shares for approximately $81.2 million during the reporting period. After those purchases, nearly $894 million remains available under the preferred stock repurchase authorization, while $1 billion remains authorized for repurchases of the company’s Class A common stock.

Investors Watch Strategy’s Capital Allocation

For years, investors have associated Strategy with aggressive bitcoin accumulation under Saylor’s leadership. The latest filing shows that the company is now balancing that approach with broader treasury management, using a combination of bitcoin sales, equity issuance, and cash reserves to support preferred stock dividends, strengthen liquidity and manage outstanding securities.

Strategy also maintained its annual 12% dividend rate on STRC and said its $4 billion USD reserve is intended to help fund preferred stock dividends and interest payments on outstanding debt. Those disclosures provide additional context for why the company has recently sold limited amounts of bitcoin despite continuing to hold the largest corporate bitcoin treasury.

Looking ahead, investors will likely watch whether Strategy resumes bitcoin purchases or continues prioritizing balance sheet management. Future SEC filings, treasury updates and any additional changes to its capital allocation strategy could provide the next indication of how the company plans to manage its record bitcoin holdings while meeting its financing commitments.
