Key Takeaways:

The XRP Ledger Foundation stated that there are no XRP airdrops, rewards, or wallet scanning programs.RippleX uncovered fake “XRP Rewards Scanner” scams that hijack wallets using phishing attacks.Ripple reminded users to check messages and posts via official channels and do not share private keys or recovery phrases.

Scammers are intensifying their phishing attack campaign targeting XRP owners with bogus reward offers and wallet validations respectively, prompting the XRP Ledger Foundation to give another warning. The warning comes at a time when crypto fraud is getting even more sophisticated, targeting trusted companies on social media platforms.

Security PSA: Phishing attempts and fake giveaway posts are becoming more common across 𝕏. Be careful with posts you’re tagged in and accounts impersonating people or organizations you trust.

Fake XRP Rewards Campaigns Target Community

The XRP Ledger Foundation stated that none of the XRP ecosystem, which includes the XRP Foundation and Ripple, are distributing free XRP or conducting reward campaigns or wallet scanning services.

It also cautioned users that the organisation will not reach out to them directly with a message asking them to connect their wallets or giving out wallet information. If there is a promotion offering free XRP and/or wallet information, then it’s suspicious.

RippleX, Ripple’s developer platform, echoed the warning after fraudulent posts began circulating on X promoting a fake “XRP Rewards Scanner.” The posts falsely claimed users could recover unclaimed XRP simply by scanning or connecting their wallets.

Phishing Tactics Continue to Evolve

That’s repeatedly being done through fake promotional posts that try to look authentic by tagging legitimate users, according to RippleX. Another ploy involves a fabricated image of Ripple providing unclaimed XRP; this has also been disseminated.

RippleX strongly urged the users to double check all announcements on the official Ripple and XRP Ledger pages and not connect a wallet, endorse any transactions or engage in any new websites before using them.

Ripple Shares Practical Security Advice

Phishing, fake giveaways, impersonation accounts, deep-fake videos and malicious websites appear to be the most prevalent crypto scams tricking investors today, according to Ripple.

It is also advisable for users to use the most up-to-date web browsers equipped with robust support against phishing attacks and wallet software that filters transactions to suspicious addresses.

More to the point, Ripple again said that no legitimate organization will ever ask for a wallet’s secret key or recovery phrase.

Community Asked to Report Fraud Quickly

Users should report any phishing campaigns or impersonated accounts as soon as they occur, according to Ripple. The company also added that stolen assets in blockchain transactions are frequently hard to retrieve because of the decentralized nature of the XRP Ledger in which no single entity has the authority to cancel out assets transferred.

This new alert comes as the industry experiences widespread crypto scam surges.

Ripple and the XRP Ledger Foundation are trying to get people to pause and double-check each message, and to keep this one thing in mind: If it’s someone promising you “free XRP,” or asking you to provide the keys to your wallet, it’s likely a scam.
